Effects & Consequences of Droughts and Possibilities of Recycling Water

Definition of Droughts

Droughts are long periods (months, years) with insignificant rain precipitation or absence of rainfall. Droughts impact our flora and fauna in several ways.

The phenomenon is amplified by global warming. Therefore, there is high risks that in future years we shall face more severe and prolonged droughts that will certainly impact more regions and larger surfaces around the globe.

Consequences of Droughts

The consequences of droughts, generally aggravated by high temperatures, are numerous. Some of them are mentioned below:

  • Aquatic life: Droughts affect most species living in water courses. The combined effect of droughts and excessive  evaporation enhances the depletion of oxygen causing death of living creatures and in worst cases extinction of some species.
  • Agriculture: Impacts harvests and leads to the death of livestock.
  • Soil surfaces: Prolonged absence of rainfall dries soil surfaces modifying their structure (porosity) in such way that water can no longer be absorbed, hence causing floods and landslide.
  • Forests: Forests become drier and dehydrates vegetations leading to death of trees and bushes. Dry regions are more prone to fire which spreads rapidly and in an uncontrollable manner.

As human beings we have no control on droughts and rainfall. However, we can contribute to reduce the impacts of droughts. Rainwater harvesting  – even when there is small precipitations – and recycling treated wastewater can help to partly solve the problem.

Water Recycling Options

H2Eau Services Ltd, proposes services of wastewater treatment and recycling for residential, villas etc.

– Compact water treatment system that can adapt your septic tanks followed by further treatment like filtration and UV sterilization.

– Rainwater harvesting using fine filtration technologies that keep your storage tank clean and free from pests (mosquitoes) coupled with filtration and disinfection system that will allow you to use the water safely for irrigation and other domestic purposes.
